على مقربة من الحدود الهندية الميانمارية، بعيداً عن البر الرئيسي الهندي والوعي السائد، تقع قرية تدعى تورا، وهي قرية يقطنها شعب الناجا. ولقد أدت سنوات من الإهمال إلى جانب تاريخ طويل من التمرد إلى غياب المرافق المدنية الأساسية بشكل ملحوظ. وبعد سبعين عاماً من استقلال الهند، سمع أهل تورا أن الكهرباء في طريقها أخيراً. وهم حذرون لأنهم خذلوا كثيراً في الماضي. وبينما يتم حفر الحفر ونصب الأعمدة، يراقب خامرانج، شيخ القرية العظيم، الأمر بعين متشككة. إن حلمه الحقيقي هو أن يرى شعبه يحقق السيادة. أما ياسمين، وهي امرأة براجماتية، فترى فرصة في وصول الكهرباء وتحلم بشراء ثلاجة لدعم تعليم أطفالها. ومع استمرار أعمال التركيب بطريقة غريبة وعشوائية، تتأرجح الحياة بين الأمل والإحباط. فهل تصل الكهرباء إلى تورا؟ وعندما تصل، هل ستجلب الفرح الموعود؟

Près de la frontière indo-birmane, loin du continent indien et de la conscience dominante, se trouve un village de la communauté Naga appelé Tora. Des années de négligence, associées à une longue histoire d’insurrection, ont fait que les équipements civiques de base brillent par leur absence. Soixante-dix ans après l’indépendance de l’Inde, les habitants de Tora apprennent que l’électricité est enfin en route. Ils sont méfiants, car ils ont été trop souvent déçus par le passé. Tandis que des puits sont creusés et des poteaux érigés, Khamrang, le grand vieillard du village, observe d’un œil sceptique. Son véritable rêve est de voir son peuple accéder à la souveraineté. Jasmine, une femme pragmatique, voit une opportunité dans l’arrivée de l’électricité et rêve d’acheter un réfrigérateur pour financer l’éducation de ses enfants. Alors que les travaux d’installation se déroulent de manière bizarre et aléatoire, la vie oscille entre espoir et frustration. L’électricité arrivera-t-elle à Tora ? Quand elle arrivera, apportera-t-elle la joie promise ?

Near the Indo-Myanmar border, far from the Indian mainland and mainstream consciousness, there is a village of the Naga community called Tora. Years of neglect coupled with a long history of insurgency have meant that basic civic amenities are conspicuous by their absence. Seventy years after Indian independence, the people of Tora hear that electricity is finally on its way. They are wary as they have been let down too often in the past. As pits are dug and poles erected, Khamrang, the grand old man of the village, watches with a skeptical eye. His real dream is to see his people attain sovereignty. Jasmine, a pragmatic woman, sees an opportunity in the coming of electricity and dreams of buying a refrigerator to support her children’s education. As the installation work proceeds in a bizarre and haphazard way, life flickers between hope and frustration. Does electricity arrive in Tora? When it does, will it bring the promised joy?
